DTG Battery-Power Mobile Cooler PowerStations Increase Sustainability with CU Boulder Athletics
CU Boulder deployed DTG’s Cooler PowerStations, 100% battery-powered mobile Cooler PowerStations, that keep 576 12 ounce cans cold for over 12 hours, are charged with solar power, and can be deployed just about anywhere on campus.
- Battery powered Cooler PowerStations are self-sustaining
- CU experienced a reduced carbon impact immediately
Last football season, BuffsTV the Buffalo Stampede Week 9 featured how the relationship between DTG and CU Boulder Athletics has enhanced all sustainability initiatives.
Designed With Sustainability In Mind Powered by Clean Battery Technology
- LFP batteries are environmentally sustainable because they are non-toxic and do not contain harmful heavy metals such as cobalt or nickel. The materials used in these batteries are easier to source ethically, which makes them a more sustainable option than other types of lithium-ion batteries. They are also fully recyclable. DTG’s MPower Battery Systems are the safest, most reliable batteries available.
- Say goodbye to ice – Mobile beverage Cooler PowerStations eliminate the need for ice, helping sports venues save on energy, time, transportation, and labor costs
CU Boulder Athletics Sustainability Leader Among Universities
CU Boulder Athletics is the first recycling program in higher education in the United States. A leader in all sustainability aspects for decades, their environmental center was started on Earth Day of 1970 by students and as a result CU Boulder is now the home of collegiate recycling. CU Boulder Athletics has won the Pac-12 Zero Waste Award and National Awards multiple times.
Deputy Athletic Director, Jason DePaepe recalls, “My first impression of the DTG product was that it would work perfectly at our venue. We have a lot of challenges here with our infrastructure and we felt that this technology would help us maximize our footprint… Having a battery-powered refrigerator for our football venue just ties into all the sustainability efforts that we do on a daily basis.”
The indoor practice facility is a lead platinum building, the greenest building you can do under the guidelines, and gives back more energy than it uses and helps to power the building itself. This is one of four in the complex for CU athletics, thus building systemic sustainability that gives back every year.
“The Cooler PowerStations help us with all of our sustainability goals and we’re telling the story of sustainability at CU and at athletics we want to be leaders on campus with sustainability and we are with this in-door facility and with charging our Power Stations in this indoor facility as well that’s 100% solar powered. This is a net zero positive energy facility so this is where we can tell our story of sustainability,” states DePaepe.
Take it from DePaepe, “Even the newest stadiums in the country could utilize the DTG PowerStations because they’re self-sustaining, they have a battery that powers the point of sale, the menu boards, the refrigerator, plus the mobility piece of them is also battery-powered. There is a location in every stadium for these carts.”
